In collaboration with Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region (DRESS EA) project 🌍, the Supreme Council for Livestock, Fisheries, and Rangelands 🌿🐑 launched a unique initiative in Al-Salam Locality – Saba’at villages. The program aims to Promote agro-silvo-pastoral systems (dryland agroforestry) 🌱 and restore rangelands through seed scattering 🌾 and planting of pastoral shrubs 🌳, with wide participation from farmers and herders 🚜👩🌾.
The project seeks to revive vegetation cover 🌳, promote environmental awareness 🌎, and enhance community teamwork 🤝 to ensure the sustainability of natural resources ♻️.
Dr. Tarek Abdel Mahmoud 👨💼, Secretary-General of the Council, emphasized that this step comes in partnership with the Climate Adaptation Fund 💧, the Sahara and Sahel Organization 🏜️, and the Global Water Partnership 💦, reflecting both international and local commitment to developing the sector.
The Executive Director of the locality, Mr. Maher Bashir 👔, praised the Council’s great efforts in developing the rangeland sector 🐄 and opening pastoral routes 🚶♂️.
Meanwhile, Project Coordinator Eng. Youssef Abdelaziz 👷♂️ explained that activities will include scattering seeds 🌾 and planting Acacia 🌳, Talh 🌴, and Heglig 🌲 trees, with strong community participation 🙌 that reflects the people’s enthusiasm to protect their environment 🌍 and secure the future of their livestock 🐑🐄.
