In collaboration with Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region (DRESS EA) project π, the Supreme Council for Livestock, Fisheries, and Rangelands πΏπ launched a unique initiative in Al-Salam Locality β Sabaβat villages. The program aims to Promote agro-silvo-pastoral systems (dryland agroforestry) π± and restore rangelands through seed scattering πΎ and planting of pastoral shrubs π³, with wide participation from farmers and herders ππ©βπΎ.
The project seeks to revive vegetation cover π³, promote environmental awareness π, and enhance community teamwork π€ to ensure the sustainability of natural resources β»οΈ.
Dr. Tarek Abdel Mahmoud π¨βπΌ, Secretary-General of the Council, emphasized that this step comes in partnership with the Climate Adaptation Fund π§, the Sahara and Sahel Organization ποΈ, and the Global Water Partnership π¦, reflecting both international and local commitment to developing the sector.
The Executive Director of the locality, Mr. Maher Bashir π, praised the Councilβs great efforts in developing the rangeland sector π and opening pastoral routes πΆββοΈ.
Meanwhile, Project Coordinator Eng. Youssef Abdelaziz π·ββοΈ explained that activities will include scattering seeds πΎ and planting Acacia π³, Talh π΄, and Heglig π² trees, with strong community participation π that reflects the peopleβs enthusiasm to protect their environment π and secure the future of their livestock ππ.
